Development work to start in 40 more unauthorized colonies: Lovely

NEW DELHI: With assembly polls just months away,Delhi government today announced the start of developmental works in 40 unauthorised colonies which are considered traditional Congress support base. 

Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told Delhi assembly that government has issued orders for taking up development works in 40 more unauthorized colonies. 

The government had cleared hurdles for initiating development works in 91 unauthorised colonies in January and issued an order for facilitating basic infrastructure in them. 

"In total, we are taking up developmental works in 131 unauthorised colonies," Lovely said. These colonies are not yet regularised and government is in the process of regularising them. 

In September last year, government had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies with certain riders, paving the way for their development on par with other areas in the city. 

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had pushed hard to regularise the colonies after the electoral debacle of the Congress in municipal polls held in April last year.
