Odisha is fast becoming one of the leading Indian States in organized industry. Naturally rich in resources, the state has attracted a lot of large conglomerates and is undergoing a period of rapid of industrialization.

As part of the evolution, jajpur district is being transformed from a traditional agriculture and mining economy to an industry oriented one. The Daitari mines within the district, famous for rich mining extracts which are exported outside India, are a significant draw for the steel industry.

Jajpur is therefore developing into an industrial hub with four operating steel plants already in place, and nine more lined up to start production. Among these are industry giants like Tata Steel, Mesco, Jindal, VISA, Neelanchal, Bhusan and Maithan. The combined proposed annual capacity of these steel plants is 20 milion tons (approx) in the coming few years with the proposed investments of about Rs.40, 000 crores.
